Okay Ventura, we are guessing you are planning your summer activities not at all thinking about your air conditioner. That is unless it’s already giving you problems. Air Conditioner breakdowns are the worst, unless you have a well trained professional HVAC technician to get you back up and running quickly. Here are the top five reasons your air conditioner could breakdown this summer.
1. Lack of AC Maintenance
You know you should have your AC looked at at least once a year, the same goes for your heater. The most common reason we see broken air conditioners are due to lack of maintenance. One of the biggest misconceptions in the HVAC world is that if you have a newer air conditioner you don’t need regular maintenance. Actually, it is quite the opposite. If your air conditioner is less than 10 years most manufacturers like Trane, Carrier and Lennox require that in order to uphold your parts warranty you must have proof of regular maintenance. We will talk more about things you can do on your own later, but please schedule your air conditioner tune up to prevent unnecessary breakdowns today!
2. Debris Around Your Air Conditioner
Condenser is industry terminology for that big square fan you have sitting on the side of your home. You know the one you have regular maintenance performed on? That Is your air conditioner also known as a condenser. Your air conditioner has more than 30 moving parts and pieces in there made to work together to push cool air into your home. It also sucks air in and if your air conditioner has leaves, branches or even shrubs obstructing its air way, you could be allowing you’re landscaping to cause an unnecessary air conditioner breakdown. Be sure and keep all sides clear of debris.
3. Pet Urine on Your Air Conditioner
We love our little furry friends but when it comes to costing you hundreds in HVAC repairs, they’re not so cute. We see it all the time. Sometimes it’s the neighborhood cats that end up being the culprit. Bottom line, urine will eat away at the air conditioners coils causing the unit sever damage, sometimes replacement. Protect your investment with cinderblocks or a short fence before it is too late.
4.Dirty Air Filters in Your Home
Your homes air conditioner filters are usually out of sight and out of mind. We have seen some pretty terrible looking filters be the cause of no cool air in your home. If you have regular maintenance done, your technician will check them for you twice a year which is ok but we like to see our clients change or wash their filters at least every other month.
5. Age of Your Air Conditioner
Yep, you guessed it; the last one is age of the HVAC system. Just like any machine, the older your AC gets the more likely it is to breakdown. These AC units are meant to lat for about 15 years so if you have an older system that is working well be sure to sign up for our annual maintenance program so that we can fine tune it twice a year keeping it running as long as possible.
