It’s the itchy, eye-watering, sneezing, miserable reaction every pet owner dreads – pet allergies. They may even result in an owner choosing to give up their beloved companion. Before you make that choice, you should know that there are many ways to improve indoor quality. It is a proven fact it is possible to reduce allergies with better indoor air quality. We can help you to develop a strategy to gain the best indoor air quality possible, reducing or eliminating issues with allergies due to pet dander.
Pet dander is the most common source of allergens related to animals, and it comes from a surprising source. Rather than the fur itself, it is the dead skin cells that slough off of your pet that are more likely to trigger an allergic reaction. Dander can spread through your home in the air itself, causing allergic reactions.
You should start by attempting some basic reduction strategies for pet allergies. Speak with your vet about setting up a bathing protocol for your pet; bathing can help to reduce dander. Also consider barring your pet from the bedroom of the person with allergies. Train pets not to jump on the furniture, and make sure that the allergic individual doesn’t interact with the pet too frequently. Taking good care of your pet and ensuring your environment is clean will help to reduce reactions.
Having air filtration can help immensely. Air cleaning systems help to strip allergen-containing dander from the air, and may even remove other air pollutants. While HEPA filters can’t usually be incorporated into HVAC systems, due to airflow problems and significantly difficult, there are other methods that can be used to clean your indoor air. Using an air purifier in tandem with your HVAC system is one way to circumvent the need for a HEPA filter installed to your HVAC system itself.
